Frances Webster letters [typed transcriptions], 1917-1918.

Typed transcriptions of letters written by Frances Webster (later Hiam), December 1917-October 1918, while serving as a nurse's aid for the American Red Cross in France during World War I. Her letters written home to her parents, siblings, and other family members describe life as a nurse in French hospitals curing children with contagious diseases, work as a secretary to the chief nurse of the Children's Bureau in Paris, and being stationed near the front lines in American and French evacuation hospitals assisting wounded soldiers. Letters also mention notes received from Webster's friend, Nora Saltonstall, who was also in France, descriptions of trips with other nurses to the French countryside, sightseeing in Paris while on leave, soldiers receiving care, and daily activities. Correspondents include her parents, Edwin S. and Jane dePeyster Hovey Webster, siblings Edwin S. Jr., Mabel, and Polly Webster, and aunt Mabel Hovey Harris, among others.
